Newly debuted singer Joosiq is back with new single ‘Good Night (5분만 더), the follow up to his impressive debut single ‘Please Turn Off The Lights‘ (one of my favourite songs this year), a duet with popular R&B musician OVAN.
‘Good Night’ is a light, but soulful R&B pop track, with a chilled energy that travels forwards lithely with each and every movement. The guitars pluck and strum gently in the background to create a soft and easy listening vibe, whilst the melodic bass and steady percussion allow the song to progress with a moderate pace. The beauty of the song’s construction is brought to life by Joosiq’s mellow, emotive vocals, weaving captivating and heart-warming melodies through the entire song. When you listen to the instrumental version of this song, it feels like a stunning lullaby, but when you listen to the song with Joosiq’s appealing voice on top, you cannot deny that the endearing nature of this song comes from the truly addictive hooks that his vocals add to the track.
This relaxed, laidback R&B vibe is a pretty popular sound at present, so appropriately matching with the current season, but for Joosiq, this is a match made in heaven. His voice holds so much tender, soulful appeal and matches well with these slower, softer melodies which allow him to linger a little longer on notes and introduce delicacy into each phrase. From time to time, songs of this genre pass me right by, but this one has just such a wonderfully simple and memorable chorus, which makes for delightful listening every time I hit play. Although Joosiq hasn’t quite hit one year since the release of his debut track, ‘Good Night’ is still a promising way to end 2020, and I will certainly be keeping an eye out for him next year.
